Freedom on the March

I am proud to have helped  my friend Ezra ( in a very small way)  fight for free speech in Canada. Section 13 needs to go. I am very happy that the Tories are listening to the grass roots of our party!

Last week, the federal justice minister, Rob Nicholson, stood up in the House of Commons and answered a question about Section 13.

The question was about a private member’s bill, put by Brian Storseth, an MP from northern Alberta. Storseth has introduced a private member’s bill, C-304, to repeal Section 13. But private member’s bills have little chance of passing without the endorsement of the government.

But Nicholson did endorse it. He called on all MPs to support it, too. Bill C-304, Storseth’s bill, is now effectively a government bill. And with a Tory majority in both the House and Senate, this bill is as good as done.

No more witch hunts by the Canadian Human Rights Commission. No more persecuting their political and religious enemies.

This is the best thing the Harper government has done in five years. Freedom is on the march.

Section 13 in the Human Rights Act Will Finally Be Toast!

We can finally say so long to Section 13 in the Human Right Act that states you can be prosecuted for offending someone's feelings. Many have, like Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn. Back bench MP Brian Stroseth has introduced a private members bill to repeal that draconian clause which should come up for debate in the near future.

What's great is that it has support from Justice Minister Rob Nicholson and the PM so it will most likely pass.  It's a no brainier if  one believes in free speech.

One would hope it would pass unamioumously.  All members should be in favor but I am not holding my breath.  All MPs of all stripes should be contacted to make sure they vote in favor of  Bill-C 304 so it can be taken care quickly  Free speech is non partisan   The sooner it's gone the better, it's long overdue.

Free Speech:Section 13 must go

The hate speech part of the federal human rights code is odious. It needs to go. It is used as a weapon by censors. I have personally spoken to HM PM Harper and Hm Minister of Justice Rob Nichols bout getting rid of this piece of legislation on a number of occasions. Seems I may get my wish.Watch Ezra andHM Minister of Justice here.

Hate speech law on the chopping block

OTTAWA - Canada's human rights commissions could soon be de-fanged.

New legislation would repeal Section 13, the hate speech portion of Human Rights Act.

“Our government believes Section 13 is not an appropriate or effective means for combating hate propaganda. We believe the Criminal Code is the best vehicle to prosecute these crimes,” Justice Minister Rob Nicholson told the House of Commons during question period.

“I say to the opposition: get onside with the media, MacLean's magazine, National Post, and even the Toronto Star says this section should go.”

Quebecor and its media properties, including Sun News Network and QMI Agency, also want the section scrapped.

Tory backbencher Brian Storseth drafted the private member's bill, C-304.

“This is a great first step,” Storseth told The Source host Ezra Levant on Sun News Network. “Free speech is something we all hold very dear to our hearts and something we all have a necessity for.”

Ding Dong! The HRC Section 13 Is Dead!

I'm loving this government. First the long gun registry is up for death by uselessness. Then the CWB loses it's monopsony power to jail our western farmers. They of course, like any good lefties, are whining to the courts, with our tax dollars. Violent criminals might actually get enough time in jail to understand that they did something wrong, thanks to a crime bill the lefties can't stand, because those poor, poor criminals didn't really mean to rape that women, or shoot that kid. Now, the next piece has fallen into place, the striking of the offensive section 13 from the HRC book of tricks.  No longer will people get persecuted for free speech because someone is "offended"!

The problem for censorshipminded activists is that proving hate speech in court is hard. Courts tend to abridge Charter rights such as freedom of expression only in the most extreme cases. It is unlikely that an antiimmigration screed on the Internet or a controversial editorial cartoon would prompt a real judge to shut down a website or fine a blogger. That's why most activists prefer to rely on Sec. 13 of the CHRA and its provincial counterparts (which should also be written out of the law), instead of the criminal code.
Now, real judges will hear real cases of hate speech, not the biased HRC employees. Now, a blogger stating their opinion on an issue will not have to worry about being hauled before the HRC for someone with "hurt" feelings. Kudos to this government for acting on this issue. Now, if "Red Ali" wants to keep Conservative votes, she will get rid of this odious section in Alberta's HRC, but I'm not holding my breath, not with what I have seen of her so far.

Finally Ezra is seeing his dream come true!
